[edit] History

The Anti-DRC Movement was founded in February 2007 (Leevosahn 9662), but first gained notoriety on February 8 (Leevotar 1) when Vixen Online of the ADM attended a sit-in organized by Tweek about the disappearance of the DRC forums. Those who organized the sit-in felt that her comments disrupted the event. [1]

On February 11 (Leevotar 3), a person claiming to be Douglas Sharper came to the ADM Bevin to join the ADM cause. They were quickly revealed to be an impostor. At that time, Vixen and Sydney said they were going to retire from cavern politics.

On April 2 (Leenovoo 14), Sydney returned to the Cavern and announced the return of the ADM and stated their goals in a meeting on April 11 (Leenovoo 21). She claimed that the DRC was hiding information about the animals in Negilahn as well as other topics. This was followed by intense arguments on the DRC forums.

About this time, the ResEngs who moderate the DRC Forums began deleting threads and posts by the ADM, establishing a policy of deleting posts that "belittling the DRC or the decisions of the Restoration Engineers will be deleted immediately." [2]

On April 26 (Leefo 4), Cate Alexander rebuked the ADM in their neighborhood after announcing that Nick White had been suspended for "fraternization". Sydney then revealed Nick as her source for information about secrets being held by the DRC. [3]

After a falling out with Nick on May 3 (Leefo 10), Sydney resigned from the ADM. Remaining members of the ADM have stated they will continue on without Sydney.

[edit] Goals

On April 11 (Leenovoo 21), the Anti-DRC movement described their goals as:[4]

  • Free D'ni
  • Promote Yeesha
  • Question the fitness and stability of the DRC to govern the cavern.
  • Moderate the restoration, making scientific study the top priority.
  • Protect the Bahro from the exploitation of slavery.

[edit] Controversy

Critics of the ADM have argued that the ADM is based upon incorrect assumptions, such as the assertion that the DRC oppose Yeesha, or that the DRC constitute a government in the cavern. The ADM has also been criticized for inaccuracies, such as claiming that the DRC does not have an anthropologist on staff (Dr. Marie Sutherland has a doctorate in anthropology).

[edit] OOC Reaction

The following section is written from an OOC point of view. Events and elements surrounding the Myst Universe are regarded as fictional.

Reaction to the storyline involving the Anti-DRC movement was overwhelmingly negative. Some felt that the storyline was poorly done and too much like a soap opera. Others felt that it was too divisive and did not reflect the themes and atmosphere of Uru.

After Sydney posted several chat logs involving conversations with Nick White, many players felt that the storyline was encouraged by Cyan. Greydragon responded on the official Myst Online forums, saying that each character in Myst Online had their own motives for what they did. [5]
