Book Assembly Island

Book Assembly Island, also often called Boiler Island or Crater Island, is one of Riven's islands. As these names suggest, it was the center of Gehn's book making experiments, it has a giant boiler used when making paper, and it consists of a crater in which there is a small lake. In buildings, apart from the boiler, the most prominent one is Gehn's lab, which was his main headquarters on Riven.

To get to Book Assembly Island, you can link to the local Fire Marble Dome, take the Mag-lev from Survey Island, walk the bridge from the Great Dome, or if you are the risky type, take a ride with the wood cart from Jungle Island.

[edit] Environment

Book Assembly Island is different from the other islands on Riven in many ways. The rock has different hue and texture than most other parts of Riven. There are hardly no plants to be found. The water in the lake is a lot greener and more opaque than water in other areas, possibly due to discharges from the book making process. Last but not least, the sky is noticably grayer in color than on other islands; the reason for this is unclear.

It consists of a large rocky island with a water-filled crater in the center. In the middle of the lake is a steam valve that distributes steam to the wood pulper (the machine where the wood cart empties), or the water-filled room that leads to the Frog Trap balcony and eventually Gehn's lab.

[edit] The Frog Trap

The Frog Trap (or, more correctly, the Ytram Trap) is a plate that can be covered with a metal dome. Ytram bait is in a cannister nearby and can be placed on the dish, which can be then lowered to the ground below. Eventually the trap's lid will snap shut when an ytram weighs down on it, attracted by the bait. The trap can then be raised back up to see the ytram inside.

Gehn used this trap so he could use the fluid secreted by ytrams in his smoking pipe.
