Cleft
From MYSTlore
The Cleft is a fissure in the ground, nearby an inactive volcano, whose caldera connects to tunnels that ultimately lead to the city of D'ni.
Its location is Eddy County; the piece of land surrounding the cleft is owned by Jeff Zandi, who inherited it from his father Elias Zandi. It seems that the Cleft or the area around it was somehow connected to the Star Fissure of Riven. Presumably Atrus' Myst Linking Book fell there, the Stranger landed there as well, and also several things from Riven.
It is sometimes incorrectly translated to riltagamin[?] (riltahgahmin) in D'ni, which actually means "unknown".

[edit] History
Its earliest known use was by Ti'ana and her father, who used it as a pit stop on their journey between their home and a nearby city to deliver reports. After the fall of D'ni, Ti'ana started to live there with Gehn, her son, who later on ran away at the age of 14.
Gehn returned with his dying wife, who gave birth to a child. Gehn stormed off, leaving his newborn son with his mother. Ti'ana named the child Atrus and raised him until Gehn came back and took his son away with him. Ti'ana secretly followed them, however, and so the Cleft is presumed abandoned, although Atrus was known to visit the Cleft at least once.
There are also some remnants of Riven that fell through the Star Fissure when it was destroyed. The broken telescope can still be seen half-buried in the ground, and nearby is a wahrk skeleton.
It seems that Yeesha also lived in the cleft during her solitary journey.
The place was disguised as somewhere in the Middle East by the DRC in order to stop curious people from wandering around, trying to find it. Starting in 2003 AD (9659 DE), Jeff Zandi helped explorers who got stuck when starting Yeesha's Journey on his land.
As a presentation of her power, Yeesha modified the link to the Cleft to either cause rain, or to revert to the more usual sunny desert weather, using a linking book with two different panels. This pays homage to her great-grandmother, Ti'ana, for whom rain in this home of hers was an exceptional gift.
