DRC liaisons

The DRC liaisons were a group of five representatives, elected by the explorer community.
As of January 17, 2007 (Leevosahn 12, 9662), all liaisons have resigned and the DRC has done away with the position of DRC liaison. The election forum was locked, then removed entirely from the DRC forums.

In February 2006 (Leevosahn 9661), Marie Sutherland announced that the DRC was requesting five 'representatives' from the community.
[edit] First Election
After significant debate, consensus among the community was that they wanted 'liaisons' with the DRC instead of representatives and that the position would be an elected one. Zardoz organized the first election in April 2006 (Leenovoo 9661) at UruChoice.

[edit] Town Halls
The liaisons began organizing Town Halls as a forum for explorers to ask questions of the DRC, with the Liaisons as meeting organizers. Later, the Town Halls were expanded to include OOC topics and included meetings with members of Cyan Worlds and GameTap. One Town Hall was organized involving The Great Tree (explorer organization), a fan-run organization.
[edit] Second Election
In October 2006 (Leevot 9662), there was much debate on the need for the position in the upcoming Myst Online: Uru Live, the nature and duties of the liaison position, as well as controversy over the candidates nominated for the position.
A second set of elections were organized by Zardoz and amonre at the UruVote website. All five of the previous liaisons were elected.
[edit] Resignations
On January 12, 2007 (Leevosahn 8, 9662), CAGrayWolf resigned, citing arguments and criticism among the community. The remaining Liaisons appointed Professor Askew as an interim liaison, which was a controversial decision.
On January 13 (Leevosahn 09), Tweek resigned his position.
On January 17 (Leevosahn 12), the remaining elected liaisons (Eleri, Gadren and Vortmax) resigned en masse. Later that day, Dr. Kodama announced that the DRC was dissolving the position. The following day, Eleri went on to announce the formation of the D'ni Network, whose staff is comprised mostly of former liaisons.

The Liaisons struggled to define their actual functions, hoping for a while to receive input from the DRC, to little avail. Opinion among the explorer community was deeply divided on the nature and utility of the position.
They mainly acted as a proxy to voice explorers' concerns to, ask questions to, and receive new information from the DRC. As some of the Liaison duties became geared toward OOC topics, the role of the Liaisons became more confused and generated more controversy.

Elections were to be held twice a year. Two took place, in April 2006 (Leenovoo 9661) and October 2006 (Leevot 9662).

- CAGrayWolf (had 62% of the public vote in the second election; resigned January 12 (Leevosahn 8))
- Eleri (46% of the public vote in the second election; resigned January 13 (Leevosahn 9))
- Tweek (43% of the public vote in the second election; resigned January 13 (Leevosahn 9))
- Vortmax (38% of the public vote in the second election; resigned January 13 (Leevosahn 9))
- Gadren (31% of the public vote in the second election; resigned January 13 (Leevosahn 9))
- Professor Askew (29% of the public vote in the second election; was a brief and unelected, therefore controversial, interim replacement for CAGrayWolf)
