English is a common language spoken by humans on Earth, and is the native language of Anna and her father and perhaps the Stranger as well.

Anna taught English to Gehn and Atrus; however due to his chauvinism, Gehn wanted to speak with his son only in D'ni language.
Atrus also taught English all the members of his family and used English to write his journals, which proved helpful when the Stranger came to Myst; he could puzzle together pieces of what happened on Myst and its related Ages.
Gehn also used English for his journals while on Riven. He said he was happy he decided so when he caught a native peeking in his journal.
