The Great Tree as it stood.

The most prominent feature of Riven was the enormous Great Tree that stood on a peninsula. Sometime after Gehn's arrival a fissure developed in the tree, which he claimed was a punishment for Eavan's questioning him. When Riven split apart the tree was located on the smallest of the five islands, which would recede to a great distance from the others over the next thirty years. The tree was eventually felled, leaving a still-massive stump in which Gehn placed a prison.

Katran wrote Tay and the Moiety Hive in remembrance of the Tree. When captured by Gehn, she was put in the Tree until the Stranger rescued her.
