For the guild's predecessor on Garternay, see Guild of Writers (Garternay).

The Guild of Writers was the most prestigious of the D'ni Major Guilds, dedicated to the writing of Ages. It was founded in 8 DE (7648 BC) by Ri'neref (the first Guild to be founded after the Exodus) with different rules than the earlier Garternay guild. Its guild color was black with dark red trim.

Ri'neref with the assistance of Grand Master Ailesh wrote an Oath of the New Guild of Writers and all members pledged to live by the principles of the Oath. It was used, with few alterations, despite an attempt by King Me'erta to ease their restrictions and provide more personal freedom to Writing. This attempt was opposed by Grand Master Tremal, who regarded it as dangerously akin to the pride of Terahnee. Ri'neref's principles remained in place until the Fall.

Their Guild Halls held libraries and book rooms the like of which could be found nowhere else in D'ni.

Atrus claimed membership of this guild when meeting other survivors.
