Laki

Lakis are large aquatic creatures from which the age of Laki'ahn gains its name. They are anatomically similar to sharks.
Lakis have a large dorsal fin, and an extra fin on their head. Only four of them are known to be alive, but there may be more in the ocean. Laki were once used in arena sports by D'ni warriors, who would fight them to the death and collect their "hearts", huge red stones found inside of the beasts. The lakis' utilizations of these stones are unknown, but they may serve as aid in digestion, or they may be similar to the ambergris found in whales. These stones are very valuable D'ni commodities. The remaining four lakis may be seen swimming just offshore of Laki'ahn, especially from a high vantage point.
The symbol of the DZS is a laki.
