Linking symbol
From MYSTlore
A linking symbol is a symbol that when drawn will cause anyone who walks through or along it it to link to another location. It is unclear whether linking symbols were known to the D'ni, or whether they are a concept of Yeesha or the Bahro.

[edit] Known Linking Symbols
[edit] Portal
The portal is a linking symbol that appears at noon in the pods of the pod age, and disappears 30 seconds later. Anyone who touches the portal in this time is taken to the Bahro cave of the Third Journey. The portal emits a strong cyan hue.
[edit] Minkata symbol
There is a linking symbol in Minkata which takes the form of the Fourth Journey's symbol. It appears in night Minkata when the stone is touched, and when someone touches the symbol it quickly goes towards the central tower. When it is touched a second time, the explorer links to day Minkata. There is also a static version of the symbol in day Minkata's tower. It keeps track of how many of the stones have been touched. When the last one has been found, it links anyone who walks into it to the Bahro cave for the Fourth Journey.
[edit] Shell symbol
In both Er'cana and Ahnonay there is a linking symbol shaped like a shell. The shell symbol is made of seven segments, each corresponding to a shell cloth. When all the cloths in the Age are touched, the symbol works and will link anyone who touches it to the Bahro cave for the Fifth Journey. Er'cana's is in a cul-de-sac in the canyon. Ahnonay's is on a catwalk overlooking the waterfall.
[edit] Uru: Expansion Packs
- When the Great Zero's light goes across an area in Ae'gura, it causes a linking symbol to draw itself in the air, shimmering until finally disappearing. By jumping through this symbol, the person is linked to the Great Shaft, which is actually within the same Age (Earth) as the linking symbol itself was.
- The tree in the Watcher's Sanctuary links the person walking along it to Myst.
Both symbols are the same symbol depicted on the Shell Cloths.
