MYSTlore:Fan and User pages

[edit] Fan pages
Fan pages are articles that document a fan in the Myst community. The fan should be notable for their activities, either IC or OOC. Such articles are generally considered OOC as they document a real person, but may also include the activities of their IC persona in Uru.
[edit] Template
A fan page should begin with the template {{fan-page}}.
[edit] In Character Sections
Sections about in character activities for that fan should be marked with the {{IC-section}} template.
Fan-created backstory for themselves should be in a Backstory section that is marked with the {{non-canon-section}} template, unless it has been accepted as a canon part of the storyline.
[edit] User pages
The User: namespace on MYSTlore allows every user to have their own personal page: the user page. It is edited much like any other page, and also features a talk page correspondent, in the User talk: namespace, plus the ability to have subpages using a slash (/).
Unlike article pages, user pages don't follow most characteristics of what makes a "good" page on MYSTlore. In particular, a user page shouldn't strive to be particularly encyclopedic, accurate or comprehensive. And, whereas article pages are IC by default (with explicitly-marked exceptions), a user page should always be OOC. It should just be a user's personal profile.
At the same time, a user page is not a replacement for a personal homepage or website; MYSTlore does not and cannot provide the resources for someone to host that. The page should be within reasonable limits, and admins may ask to have more extreme cases cut down.
Even though anyone can edit a user page, people should generally refrain from editing that of others; doing so is generally considered impolite. If they wish to make a comment to the user, or leave them a message, they should use the user's talk page. The next time the user visits MYSTlore, they will receive notification of their user talk page having changed.
[edit] Comparison
There is considerable overlap between fan and user pages. However:
- a fan doesn't necessarily have an account on MYSTlore, or for other reasons may not have a user page.
- likewise, a MYSTlore user may be notable enough for a fan page to exist about them.
- a user page does not serve to describe a third person. It is for a user to introduce themselves.
- conversely, it could be construed as conceited for a user to create their own fan page.
