MYSTlore:Jigsaw puzzle
From MYSTlore
MYSTlore features a jigsaw puzzle: a piece of software generates puzzle tiles using a selection of images from our pool.
[edit] How to play
Head over to the puzzle page. You can pick a level, which affects the size and number of tiles (the more tiles, the smaller each one, and the harder the solution), and you can refresh to have a different image chosen.
Use drag & drop to arrange the tiles. Pull tiles closely together to combine them.
[edit] Suggesting images for addition
The puzzle, being implemented as an external application, currently cannot automatically fetch images from MYSTlore's database. The long-term goal is to let editors add images to the appropriate category, Jigsaw puzzle images and thus make them part of the random rotation of the images the puzzle tiles are generated from.
Instead, you currently have to add an image to Suggested jigsaw puzzle images, and (possibly following a discussion) it will eventually be added to the (static) list of images manually.
Images should not be significantly smaller than 640x480. You should also avoid ones with too large monochrome, weakly-textured areas, as arranging multiple similarly-colored tiles is difficult. Especially avoid white backgrounds, as they won't stand out against the page at this point.
[edit] Other limitations
- Images in rotation are not categorized. For example, you cannot only play with images from Riven.
- Likewise, you cannot browse for images on MYSTlore, pick a particular one and play with it. Consequently, you're either left with the image that has randomly been picked for you, or you have to keep refreshing until one to your liking does appear – even ignoring the needless strain this puts on the server, that's hardly an ideal solution.
