Here are some general guidelines that might be helpful for people who are new to the Wiki system.
- Please register and/or login before posting! This way we know who is doing what.
- Do not edit one page many times in a row when it is avoidable! This fills the recent changes page with nonsense.
- Fill in the summary text box! Before submitting an edited page, think of an useful summary text which explains the changes you've made in a simple sentence.
- Try to keep a page readable in both editing and viewing mode! That means, do not use many formatting tags that might confuse other people who also want to edit the page.
- Use the preview function before submitting! After editing a page always take a look at the new content/formatting/whatever before actually submit it. Many mistakes can be found easily this way.
- Create pages with short titles! When creating a new page use a short descriptive title of what a visitor will find there. Though it is possible to use a whole sentence as page title, you should use only up to five words.
- Use the minor edit checkbox! When you just want to make minor changes (often formatting), you should mark your edit as minor. As just the major changes are interesting for many people, the recent changes page can hide all minor changes. However if all edits are marked as major (or better: not minor), you lose the overview quite easily. More Information can be found at Wikipedia: Minor edit (Wikipedia)
- Put at least one space before each line of code! It makes the code look nice and seperate. This not only goes for code, but for our popular file format descriptions as well.
- When posting on a discussion page use ~~~~ to sign it. Placing a ~~~~ after your comment will sign your post with your user name and time. This makes it much easier to follow the discussion in a simple and uniform way.
