MYSTlore talk:D'ni input
From MYSTlore
May I suggest the introduction of a template stating something like "This page/section contains text written in d'ni, click here for more help" or similar, so that new users will be guided quickly to the font download, etc?
- Yes, sounds good. I'll sleep over it. Chucker 03:22, 12 November 2006 (CST)
- How about this? (Each d'ni tag now has a [?] after it.) Chucker 03:44, 12 November 2006 (CST)
- I could expand that into something like [What's this?] or [Can't read?], but I haven't decided yet. Chucker 03:46, 12 November 2006 (CST)
[Note to self: consider adding font detection. Chucker 01:38, 21 March 2007 (CDT)]
The box says "Note: This page contains text written in D'ni. To be view it properly, you need to have the D'ni script font installed on your computer, and it appears you don't. Click here for more information." The part I have emboldened should be "To view". Gorobay 05:25, 13 November 2007 (CST)
- Whoops. Thanks! I changed the wording to "In order to view it as intended", though. Should be clearer this way. Chucker 12:13, 13 November 2007 (CST)
[edit] Ubuntu instructions
I believe you're not supposed to use 'su' (i.e., log in as root) in Ubuntu, where avoidable. Wouldn't it suffice (and be better) to do: mkdir Dnifont wget http://www.mystcommunity.com/storage/Dnifont/Dn______.TTF mv Dn______.TTF Dnifont/ sudo cp Dnifont /usr/share/fonts/truetype/ ? You'd only perform the copying as root; you'd never log in as it, use its environment, etc. Chucker 03:24, 27 July 2007 (CDT)
[edit] Auto-categorization
It would be nice to have the
<d'ni> tags make the page they are in a part of a Category:Articles with D'ni text or something along those lines, to make it easier to look for articles with D'ni in them. Gorobay 16:30, 8 October 2007 (CDT)
- Agreed, but I'm not sure if I can do that. I'll try and figure it out. Chucker 17:28, 8 October 2007 (CDT)
- I still haven't found a good way of doing this, sorry. I'll keep looking.
- Finally. Category:Articles with D'ni text and Category:Articles with D'ni numerals. You'll have to re-submit each page with those tags, though. There's also a weird bug that inserts linebreaks; no idea where that one's coming from. Chucker 07:50, 4 November 2007 (CST)
[edit] Numerals
So I've added support for numerals. However, the smallest size at which all numerals display correctly for me is 20pt. That's, uh, way more than it should be. The inner lines of the [3] are particularly bad, but many numerals suffer from this (especially [8], [15], [16] and [18]), even though other similar glyphs look perfectly fine at small sizes. Perhaps with knowledge on editing TrueType fonts ought to put out a fixed version. While we're at it, this should also resolve a minor error in the 'name' table that my font manager reports. (I don't know what in particular is wrong with it.)
With a fixed version, we could easily use size 14pt instead. Chucker 05:27, 4 November 2007 (CST)
