The Myst universe (also D'niverse) is the fictional reality in which takes place the computer game-centered adventure series created by brothers Rand and Robyn Miller that began with the release of Myst in 1993. Outside of computer games, it encompasses three released novels, two comics, and a number of web sites. The series is apparently also open to fan-created content, though none has ever been officially endorsed by Cyan Worlds.

[edit] Plot

As explained within the Myst universe, two decades ago the D'ni Restoration Council (DRC) hired Cyan Worlds to make a series of computer games to relate to the world the story of a man named Atrus and prepare humanity for the eventual unveiling of the ancient D'ni civilization. These computer games were released in a series entitled Myst. To supplement the computer games, a series of novels and comics was also released before the opening of the great D'ni caverns.

The five computer games in the Myst series chronicle the adventures of a mysterious character known only as the Stranger and, as stated above, tell the story of Atrus and his family.

The Myst novels and comics tell the story of Atrus' family (1) before he was born, (2) preceding the events of Myst, and (3) after the events of Riven: The Sequel to Myst but before those of Myst III: Exile.

In modern times, the D'ni caverns have been opened and are being explored by a small group of people. Current events related to Myst and D'ni are experienced within the online game Uru, which within the Myst universe is considered to be part of reality.
