The Nemel Lotus is an undeniably dominating presence in the lowermost swamps of Edanna. Consisting of thick, fleshy petals surrounded by smaller rings of sepals, the Nemel Lotus is suspended above the water level on several leaves veined with bioluminescence. The flower relies heavily on the few beams of light that penetrate the tree's outer bark to survive; though closed when in shadow, the flower opens into full bloom whenever stimulated by light.

The plant reproduces both as a flower- and fruit-bearing plant. Though it hosts massive stamen that sit above the main pod, its opened petals also reveal a cage of purple fruits contained in its heart. The Age's insect population are attracted to both the stamen and fruit of the Nemel Lotus, and can be found flitting about quite regularly. They are, however, turned off by the floating spores released by both the lotus and the nearby Vesuvi Mushrooms, and so will scatter as a result. The release of these spores, coupled with a loud trumpeting sound, signifies that the lotus' fruit has ripened- this allows for the Grossamery to come and collect the cage of fruit, which it then brings back to its nest for sustenance.
This natural process plays an important role in one of Atrus' puzzle for this Age, as the traveler has to open the lotus and signal the grossamery to carry them to the final J'nanin linking book.
