A ning tree is a crystalline structure which, upon contact, crumbles and vanishes. They can be found in the second sphere of Ahnonay, and play a pivotal role in advancing to the third sphere.
Ning trees do not appear to be sentient or sapient, and may not actually be lifeforms at all. There is a theory that the trees' formation is related to the lightning storms in the second sphere.

The following section is written from an OOC point of view. Events and elements surrounding the Myst Universe are regarded as fictional.
The name "ning tree" has been used by Cyan employees during the private Path of the Shell beta test, and game files supposedly contain references. Recently, the name has been confirmed[1]. However, there is no in-game example of the word.
