The ornithophidian is a snake-like creature that inhabits Haven. Its most distinguishing features are its two wings, which can be folded and unfolded easily. Little is known about their diet and behavior.

During his imprisonment on Haven, Achenar used several of these as natural security locks. When used this way, they wrap tightly around something unless stroked the right way. He used them to lock the lever that controlled the gondola he had built to reach the linking cage (possibly to keep the mangrees from accidentally activating it). It can also be found in Serenia, where it was imported by Achenar to lock on to an irrigation device.

"Ornithophidian" is a compound of Greek words, although itself is not an actual word. It seems to be compounded from the words ὄρνις (ornis, "bird") and ὄφις (ophis, "snake").
