Relto bookshelf

The Relto bookshelf is in the hut placed in Relto by Yeesha. This bookshelf holds the linking books for an explorer's personal instances of Ages.
The Relto shelf has space for 36 books, in two rows. These rows are often divided into smaller sections, categorized by a similar theme, usually which Journey the Ages belong to.

[edit] Using the Books
Books are accessed by touching them. An automatic mechanism moves the book out and opens it. It closes automatically after it has been used to link.
Many books have multiple pages, which each have their own linking panel. These pages lead to different locations in the same Age. Whatever page was looked at last is the default page for when the book is accessed again.
Some books (those in the first and fifth journeys) also have a journey tab on the inside cover. Touching this tab links the user to the last Journey cloth they touched in that Age.
[edit] Unlocking books
Books can only be accessed by the owner of a particular Relto unless the book is unlocked. Someone can unlock a book in their Relto shelf by flipping up the tab on the top. Then any person in the Relto can access the book. However, they can only access the page that the book opens to by default; they cannot turn the pages.
Some books cannot be unlocked. These are indicated with a single hand symbol on the tab above the book. A few books can be unlocked, but are only usable by the owner of the Relto.
[edit] Adding books
When an explorer touches a linking book or Bahro stone with Yeesha's symbol on it, a page to the same location is added to the appropriate book in their Relto bookshelf. If this is the first page for that Age, the book is added to the shelf with that just that page.
[edit] Deleting books
By touching the tab at the bottom of a book in the shelf (the tab with the D'ni numeral for zero), an explorer can delete that book from the shelf. If the book is added later, the Age will be reset.

The order and some of the books available in Uru:Ages Beyond Myst and its expansion packs were different. Additionally, the sharing tab has no effect in the game. The symbol on the sharing tab indicated which expansion set the book came from.

[edit] Phil's Relto
In the Phil's Relto found in The Path of the Shell, there is a full Relto shelf, and its neighborhood book links to Kirel. The version in Uru Live is slightly different. In the places of the books to the Watcher's Sanctuary, Er'cana, the temple, and Ahnonay, there are books with different bindings. Where they lead to is unknown, but the bindings look like those of Dereno, Teledahn, Negilahn, and the Er'cana (the new binding). Also, the Myst book looks different. All the other books are the same.
