[edit] Life on Garternay
Born on Garternay, Ri'neref joined the Guild of Writers when he was five years old. It is said that he became one of the finest Writers that the Ronay had ever seen, with Ailesh going so far as to say that Ri'neref was of unsurpassed skill in his memoirs. He reached the rank of Guild Master, but never reached the rank of Grand Master despite having the necessary skills, because of his personal views that challenged those of the Guild of Writers and the King of Garternay.
Around 73 BE (7729 BC), the Grand Master of the Guild of Writers asked Ri'neref to write a Descriptive Book to an Age that Ri'neref felt was questionable as he felt that it would be used to hold a race of uncivilized beings to be used by the Ronay. After his refusal, Ri'neref left the Guild of Writers either by his own volition or after being dismissed by the Guild. Records indicate that Ri'neref leaving the Guild of Writers wasn't popular among the Ronay public.
Having known about Garternay's impending destruction, Ri'neref had been working on the D'ni Age since he left the Guild of Writers. He was able to convince a few thousand Ronay to follow him to D'ni with the blessing of the King of Garternay.
[edit] Life in D'ni
Ri'neref instated himself as the King of the new D'ni society with very little disagreement among the Ronay who followed him. Unlike the King of Garternay, Ri'neref lived in a simple home because of his religious views, instead focusing on the construction of religious and government buildings.
Breaking from tradition, Ri'neref established the line from the Great Zero to magnetic north as only for holy buildings. Buildings on this line also required the King of D'ni's permission for their construction.
Records imply that Ri'neref chose the site of the D'ni city which was based on the line of the Great Zero as well as a group of waterfalls that fell from the ceiling of the D'ni cavern to an area beside the line. Ri'neref went on to direct the construction of the Writer's Guild which was completed in 8 DE before he moved onto the created the 18 Major Guilds by 100 DE (7556 BC). Ri'neref sometimes chose different guilds for the Major Guilds then had existed on Garternay because he felt they were healthier and would please Yahvo. In order to discourage the guilds from becoming more focused on having the best facilities, Ri'neref implemented a list of restrictions and guidelines upon guild construction.
Ri'neref felt that construction of the Regeltovokum was extremely important, but it was delayed until 48 DE (7608 BC) due to disagreements. Eventually Ri'neref died in 120 DE (7536 BC) due to heart complications. Although he had married, he had sired no children so he chose Ailesh to succeed him as King of D'ni.
[edit] Religious Beliefs
Ri'neref was pious and devout in the faith of Yahvo. He believed that people could focus on Yahvo and trust him more easily when their circumstances were difficult. He felt that in such an environment they would be unlikely to give in to the temptations they would face. He employed this philosophy when he wrote the D'ni Age. Another belief he strongly held was the prophetical book, Regeltavok Oorpah.
[edit] K'veer Mosaic
Ri'neref's face is depicted on a mosaic on the floor of a room in K'veer. A bahro put a pedestal on the mosaic on November 5, 2007 (Leevofo 12, 9663) with a linking book to Myst on it. This action has angered some explorers, who consider it blasphemy.
[edit] Background
Ri'neref's face is actually a photograph of Chuck Carter.
