Rime is one of the many Ages written by Atrus while he lived on Myst Island. Sometimes called the Snow Age [Citation needed] due to its permanently winter-esque weather, it served mainly as an experimental lab of sorts; for example, it features a mechanism for inducing an aurora-like phenomenon of heavenly lights. The main purpose of the Age was to hold a crystal viewer of other Ages, a technique Atrus had been exploring but was unable to implement without the cold temperatures of Rime.

The age seems to consist of floating icebergs. The fauna of the age includes whale-like creatures[1] that can be seen in the sea and carnivorous creatures that can be heard (but not seen)[Verification requested].
