Selenitic is one of the many Ages written by Atrus while he lived on Myst Island. It is one of the few that shows no evidence of being plundered by Sirrus and Achenar, as it was never inhabited.
Originally idyllic with the exception of an uncomfortably hot breeze, it was altered drastically by a meteor shower shortly after Atrus arrived. It is now scared with craters (one of which formed a large lake) and a volcanic chasm, though it does now have a pleasant breeze.
Atrus noticed hat the Age had some unexplained mysteries to reveal. One of them he had yet to explain, was the fading of the ink of some entries in his Selenitic Journal

[edit] Geography
Little is known of the Age before the meteor shower. Currently, the island has assumed a crescent shape with a little belt of shore around a big lake, apparently formed by the meteor. A little islet protrudes from the center of the lake. Shortly after the initial meteor shower, Atrus observed a large volcanic chasm open up, providing access to a maze-like system of underground caves. In order to better explore these caves, Atrus built a rail network for a device based on D'ni mining technology. The age has been almost completely transformed since Atrus's original visit, though oddly the only thing that remains the same is the stream by which Atrus spent his first night on the age. It is now an oasis.
A spaceship like structure was built around the link-in point, identical to the one found on Myst.
Selenitic is known for its sound puzzles, which are solved by harnessing the odd sounds that are on the island.

Places of interest included five hotspots:
- A ruined clock.
- A lava chasm
- A tree grove
- A crystal forest
- An underground tunnel, leading to the islet.
Atrus had put sound amplifiers and transmitters to each spot and pointed to the small islet in the center of the largest lake where he had built an antenna receiver.

- Early concept drawings indicate that Selenitic was actually a planet, reached through flying with the Spaceship of Myst; the spaceship of Selenitic would have been the very same ship, not a replica.[1]
- Early plans intended the maze to be a walkable structure. However that would require a great amount of render time for each all the slide images (one for each step and turn), so the mazerunner was conceived.[2]
