The squee is a small, rodent-like mammal native to the age of Edanna, though it is also found as an imported species on J'nanin for the purpose of Atrus's puzzles.

Covered in a downy, white fur with blue-grey markings, the Squee sports a prominent head crest and large cheek sacs that inflate as it makes its peculiar "chirruping" noise. Though undoubtedly used for communication as well, these vocalizations also activate one of the squee's primary dietary sources, Barnacle Moss, causing it to inflate and expose edible inner parts for the squee's consumption. This cause and effect was harnessed for multiple puzzles that Saavedro set up for Atrus in both J'nanin and Edanna, and is, in fact, necessary to gain access to the Edanna linking book.

It is speculated that Saavedro hunted squees for their fur and meat during his 20-year exile, as he is seen wearing a squee hide around his forearm upon first meeting him. Perhaps this hunting is why there seems to be such a sparse population of squees in Edanna itself.
