Star fissure

A star fissure is an area that can be written into an Age by altering the Descriptive Book. The Star Fissure appears in an Age as a black rift in the ground with lots of stars. Whether or not there is only one Star Fissure and a connection from an Age to it is made, or if there are many star fissures for each Age that has one, is currently unknown.

[edit] Riven Star Fissure
The first connection to the Star Fissure (Called by the Moiety Allatwan "pool of stars"), was created by Catherine when she wrote some fissures into Riven. She did this to allow her and Atrus to link within the fissure and have the Linking Book fall out of Gehn's reach, trapping him on Riven. However, the link to the Star Fissure was the end result and for unknown reasons it leads to the Cleft. The link to the Star Fissure wasn't understood by Catherine and Atrus, instead they believed it a gift from the Maker.
The Riven connection to the Star Fissure destabilized the Age further and threatened to consume the Age. However Gehn was able to decrease the rate of destabilization by creating a seal on the Fissure that was eventually broken by the enigmatic figure known only as the Stranger in his and Atrus' plot to free Catherine who had been trapped on Riven.

Yeesha is able to create a connection to the Star Fissure which she makes appear in Relto after collecting the four Bahro Pillars as part of one of her journeys. Unlike the connection in Riven, Yeesha has been able to create a stable connection that can also close itself. This Fissure also leads to the Cleft.
[edit] Bahro Cave
In many of the unnamed Bahro Caves there is a connection to the Star Fissure. Like the Relto connection, this one doesn't destablize the area. However unlike the Riven connection, when entering this Star Fissure, people will link back to Relto. Whether this is a natural property of this connection to the Star Fissure or Yeesha has specifically set up something foreign to the Star Fissure in order to cause the person to link to Relto is currently unknown.

At one time there was a depiction on stone in Er'cana of a rift leading to the Star Fissure, created in such a way that touching it led to one of the unnamed Bahro Caves.
