Subliminal face
From MYSTlore
This page is written from an OOC point of view. Events and elements surrounding the Myst Universe are regarded as fictional.
The subliminal face is found near the beginning of Riven, and is actually not an easter egg, but an image intentionally put in by the developers to add to Riven's sense of paranoia and heighten the player's experience with the game. It is a brief, flickering image of someone's eyes, and it is widely believed among Myst fans that they belong to Gehn; therefore, he has been keeping his eyes on the player from the start, an extremely unnerving idea to contemplate.
It's found in the opening movie, when Atrus holds up the book for the player to link, and it appears several times. The image is very fast, though, so in order to catch it, you may have to view the movie outside of the game in slow motion.
