Talk:D'ni (race)
From MYSTlore
[edit] Naming
Is this article about the people, or the age, or both? I think it would be best if there were three articles, "D'ni (Age)", "D'ni (race)" and "D'ni (language)" (the last one already exists though), with a disambiguation page on this article? 84.217.129.129 18:08, 7 November 2006 (CST)
- Yes, the article should be separate and itself turned into a disambiguation page (with the {{disambig}} template). Been meaning to; didn't get around to it. Feel free. Chucker 18:11, 7 November 2006 (CST)

- Thanks! Chucker 04:48, 28 November 2006 (CST)
- That said, my redirects on D'ni people and D'ni age don't seem to be working. Any help appreciated. LordJuss 05:06, 28 November 2006 (CST)
- I'm not sure what you mean. D'ni people, for me, redirects to D'ni (Race), and D'ni age, for me, redirects to Earth. Is that not how it's supposed to be? Chucker 05:07, 28 November 2006 (CST)
- Hmm. That's right. Must just be my machine. Cheers anyway. LordJuss 05:29, 28 November 2006 (CST)
- Might be a problem with your cache. 0123456789 05:45, 28 November 2006 (CST)
Shouldn't this be called D'ni civilization? The first sentence says "This is an article about the D'ni civilization." Gorobay 11:09, 23 September 2007 (CDT)
- I removed that statement (an article shouldn't explain what it's about; that's what the title is there for). In this particular case, "civilization" and "race" are virtually identical. The article is meant to focus on the people, their origins, culture, etc., as opposed to their capital or language. D'ni has an appropriate disambiguation page. Chucker 11:16, 23 September 2007 (CDT)
[edit] IPA
The article mentions that Dunny is pronounced 'ˈdʌ.ni'. I don't know much about IPA, but in the D'ni wiktionary, the symbol ʌ is used for the 'u' letter as heard in 'put' (a short variant of 'oo').
Now, the u in 'dunny' (and 'funny') no way sounds like this u/oo letter. It sounds more like 'danny', although a bit closer. I don't know the proper symbol but 'ˈdɑ.ni' looks a bit more accurate. 85.72.172.178 01:03, 31 May 2008 (CDT)
- The MYSTlore dictionary does in fact use /ʌ/ for the first vowel in dunny and funny. D'ni doesn't have the put sound (/ʊ/). Talashar 06:28, 31 May 2008 (CDT)
