Talk:Span
From MYSTlore
Is there a non-approximate conversion? With Toran, we have 62500 torantee ^= 360 degrees… Chucker 16:14, 17 April 2007 (CDT)
- As far as I know, all the info we got is a line in the BoT, stating that three spans is almost 40 feet. Marein 16:16, 17 April 2007 (CDT)
- Though I must say 4.0640 meters seems awfully close to 4 meters... Marein 16:20, 17 April 2007 (CDT)
- Hmm. Well, amon pointed me to a post of Tweek's earlier, but (no offense to him) while the torantee/degrees factors are accurate, at least two of the span/feet/meters ones are not. The first and third line seem right; the second and fourth one aren't. In any case, I was hoping we could have a factor that doesn't give us rounding problems. ;-) Chucker 16:29, 17 April 2007 (CDT)
Just to be sure: span is an anglicization of shafee, yes? If so, Tweek's plural of "spantee" doesn't make sense, since span is an English word, right? And the proper plural of the unit's name would be… shafeetee? Chucker 07:18, 18 April 2007 (CDT)
- That's correct. However I found a small mistake: it's shahfee, not shafee. Can someone update the D'ni coding? I would but I don't know what standard it uses for the characters... Marein 07:25, 18 April 2007 (CDT)
- Never mind, the D'ni text already reads shahfee (so it was actually incorrect before). Marein 07:27, 18 April 2007 (CDT)
Okay, so shouldn't this be moved to Shahfee, then, to be consistent with Toran? :-) Chucker 07:35, 18 April 2007 (CDT)
- Maybe, however, we don't know the English word for 'toran' (as far as I know at least it's a D'ni word). So it's kinda different I guess... But if you see it fit please move the page :) Marein 12:15, 18 April 2007 (CDT)
