Talk:The Joining
From MYSTlore
I like this, and it's answered quite a few questions I've had.
However, I believe the writing style lacks some objectiveness, and uses a lot of hyperbole. Not that that's necessarily a bad thing, but consider this, for instance:
The comic has become widely dismissed as apocryphal by both Cyan and the fandom at large, a decision which is not surprising considering that the story seems straight out of the extended Star Wars universe.
I know what the Star Wars EU is, but I haven't read any such publications, so I don't know about the common/typical flaws in them. I suppose you go on to explain a little further:
The settings lacked the same subtle tone and aesthetic that was found in Myst and Riven, becoming far too muscular and armor-clad for their own good. The characters are mere shadows of who they are in the game, as well- Atrus is generic, Gehn is long-haired, and the writers seemed to have flipped the roles of Sirrus and Achenar entirely.
So, would you say that typical Star Wars EU traits are:
- a blunt "tone and aesthetic", leaving little imagination up to the reader
- black-and-white, simple, one-sided characters, leaving little second-guessing up to the reader
? That's my understanding, but I'm quite unsure. :-) Chucker 15:20, 11 November 2006 (CST)
- Sorry, I just put this up and planned on fiddling with it later- yeah, damn, it is rather obvious that I have strong opinions about the comics. Shoomlah 15:32, 11 November 2006 (CST)
- Can't wait for the new and improved Myst comic series by Shoom'lah ;-) :-) I didn't mean to harshly criticize; I do like it in general. Chucker 15:33, 11 November 2006 (CST)
- You have no idea how much I want to be hired to do one- I had this elaborate comic script written out detailing events at the end of Revelation that I've been dying to finally put together. :D Shoomlah 15:45, 11 November 2006 (CST)
- (severely off-topic) Self-publishing, especially for purely digital creations, is becoming increasingly feasible and common... just sayin' ;-) Chucker 15:55, 11 November 2006 (CST)
