Terahnee (language)
From MYSTlore
The Terahnee language was spoken by the people of Terahnee, as well as by the slaves brought to that age (known as the 'relyimah').
The languages of D'ni and Terahnee are closely related. Both languages are immediately descended from the language of the Ronay on Garternay.
Not much is known about the language of Terahnee. Even after millenia of separation, it is mutually intelligble with D'ni. After the events recounted in the Book of D'ni, some words from the Terahnee language came into D'ni, notably "bahro", a term originally applied to the relyimah of Terahnee.
The Terahnee language is written in a different script from the one used for D'ni. The two are similar and probably historically related.
Terahnee is referred to as a dialect of D'ni. Terahnee speakers are described as speaking D'ni with a heavy accent. Although the accent is not described, this does indicate that the two languages had separate phonological development during the time of their separation. Some Terahnee names indicate that the Terahnee language also has different phonotactic rules than D'ni. The name "Jethhe" (jeThe[?]), for example, has "h" occuring after a fricative, whereas "h" is not allowed in that position in D'ni.
