The Tree

The Tree was an old religion that possibly came with the Ronay when they first settled D'ni. King Me'erta proposed a temple for it be built along his line from the Great Zero which was eventually built in 1843 DE (5813 BC). It is possible that it was in fact King Me'erta's mother, Jolatha, who wanted the temple built as it was said she was a devout follower of the religion.

The Tree taught that many of the old books that had been locked away in the Tomb of the Great King held special power. It was probably for this reason that in 1999 DE (5657 BC) Jolatha had King Me'erta order the tomb's seal broken and some of the books removed. This was done and the books that were taken were stored in the Temple of the Tree. Although Jolatha died, probably from a mutation of Ahlsendar's plague which she caught when visiting one of the Ages, the books remained in the Temple of the Tree. They were probably allowed to remain as King Me'erta believed that his mother had died from a curse for entering the tomb rather then a biological plague.

Ahlsendar's plague eventually swept through D'ni, killing large portions of the D'ni population for years. The wavering King Behnashiren called on both Yahvo and the Tree for help.

By the time of King Asemlef the cult of the Tree had dwindled and vanished.
