Temple of the Great King
From MYSTlore
The Temple of the Great King is a temple in D'ni built in anticipation of the Great King's arrival. It was constructed in the reign of King Ja'kreen according to designs given in the Regeltavok Oorpah, making it a building of unusual size. The Temple contained a gold throne taken from the Temple of Yahvo and was filled with strange patterns claimed by some to be prophetic.
In 1500 DE (6156 BC) Ahlsendar, the Great King, confessed his involvement with the Pento plague and commanded that he be sealed into the temple, together with the books leading to infected Ages and those books connecting the D'ni with their past, including the linking book to Terahnee. The size of the Temple was now understood to be necessary to hold all these books. Ahlsendar's final wishes contained an exhortation to never break the seal on what was now the Tomb of the Great King.
However, in 1999 DE (5657 BC) Jolatha convinced her son, King Me'erta to open the Tomb in secret. She removed several books to the Temple of the Tree, but in so doing instigated the spread of an evolved version of the Pento plague that would devestate D'ni. After Jolatha's death a few days later, Me'erta sealed the Tomb again. It would remain untouched for the rest of the D'ni Empire's history, and in the reigns of King Naygen and Kerath was covered over with the construction of the Guild Hall.
When after the Fall of D'ni survivors returned, led by Atrus, to attempt to rebuild, they rediscovered the Tomb of the Great King. Their expedition through the Terahnee book led to the fall of the luxurious but oppressive civilization they found there. Catherine would write later, "...I understood what only the Maker and Great King had known . . . it was all meant to be: to fulfill a greater good and vanquish a greater evil.".[1]
