The Tongue Fern, found in the forests of Edanna, is a massive fern made up of a single, 15 ft. frond. The frond is tightly coiled when in shadow but then immediately unfolds when exposed to light, somewhat resembling the circinate vernation ferns go through as they’re initially formed. Conveniently, the fern can provide its own light - a lamp-like spore hanging from its roots can be touched to expose its luminescent center. This feature has been greatly perplexing to some explorers, as it seems to behave as a biological perpetual motion machine.
Tongue Ferns are strong enough to support human weight, and thus function marvelously as small bridges to access more obscure areas of the Age.
