Hi... I see you put some transcripts by Atrus... I thought putting in the article the speech transcript template, when I wondered why you didn't yourself... is it ok to use it or is it totally experimental? Or are you going to do it yourself at a later time? Koena 16:15, 7 January 2008 (CST)

They weren't in the games, and like Atrus's letter on the Myst box, were probably there for marketing. Gorobay 08:43, 27 January 2008 (CST)

I can't prove they are canon, but I don't find too many similarities to Atrus' letter. I'd argue that we shouldn't entirely dismiss them as non-canon. Koena 09:59, 27 January 2008 (CST)

Yo there, we had some discussion on 'met fahm' about English expressions in D'ni. I have 'discovered' several other examples so I thought discussing them with you.

First of all, I think that such big 'coincidences' of similarities between D'ni and English (and I mean really big, not just similarities that are found in other languages), can be considered bloopers (on the designers' behalf) and therefore deserve to be mentioned as OOC trivia and commentary.

I also interpret them as bloopers because they are found in early texts such as Aitrus' Map, while they are absent in later texts, when D'ni is more mature and well-structured. One of the most noticeable examples is the passive participle in Aitrus' Map. While the more recent 'kenen gor' shows that passive participles are formed with ij, in Aitrus' Map they are formed as in English:

• by simple past (kotokituen 'it determined/was determined' and kohúren 'it found/was found'); these are actually verb formations, not participles, but used as participles because of the writers' English confusion
• by past continuous (kodobarelen 'it was making/was made' and kodolasaen 'it was sealing/was sealed'); again, a verb formation
• the verb ken 'be' is also added: kokenen kosayen 'was designed' kokenen kohúren 'was found'.

Similarly, in the Map there is another example of a verb used as a participle: kohooret ah metm'la dotsaven. Dotsaven is an active verb, here used as present participle (or is it gerund?).

Obviously the writers, being English, didn't thought about all this, and this similarities were the 'natural' way to go. However they are alien for another language (and still, not alien enough to be D'ni, because of the English similarity :)). The above make them classify them as minor OOC bloopers and inconsistencies, other than some IC coincidences. I'd like your commentary :) Koena 03:44, 11 May 2008 (CDT)

Yo. First of all, it is obvious that the early texts had some translation problems, and that OOC, this is because the creators spoke English. I understand the OOC nature of it, but there is no good way to mention it in a IC way. It would be a good thing to mention such inconsistencies - if they are inconsistent with later texts - in an OOC section. The reason I started the "met fahm" discussion is because (1) the reference was not marked as OOC, and (2) it is not inconsistent with later texts.

What I mean to say is, you are right that these inconsistencies should be mentioned somewhere, but only in an OOC section or page. IC, they still exist, and we will have to consider them Aitrus's grammar mistakes or some kind of slang. Gorobay 08:13, 11 May 2008 (CDT)

That is true (though all of the references in The Stranger can be considered IC). Anyway, I think it should be clear that the inconsistencies are OOC: either mention it in the reference, or create a "Background" section. Gorobay (talk) 11:18, 11 May 2008 (CDT)
