The massive Venus Flytrap found in Edanna is not native to the Age, but was later introduced by Saavedro as a way to complicate Atrus's own puzzles[1].
Although it is known as the Venus Flytrap, it is not a Venus Flytrap. It is actually a species of giant pitcher plant, bred from different plants from Edanna. The leaf appears to be an adaptation to keep the animals it captured from escaping. It probably contains a sweet-smelling poisonous or acidic liquid in the bottom. The spikes around its rim may have been adapted for keeping the prey inside or for injuring it, allowing an acid or poison to act on the animal faster.
Though a smaller test version of the flytrap can be found in Saavedro's lab on J'nanin, it is unknown how he managed to breed such a huge plant for such a specific purpose. It is entirely possible that the plant was originally not much bigger than a small dog and Saavedro simply carried it into Edanna and planted it there, where it grew to its present size, but this cannot be known for certain. The plant is large enough to contain a full-grown grossamery, and snaps open in response to an electrical charge provided by the native Electra Ray. Obviously, it adapted to life in the surrounding ecosystem surprisingly well.
