Veovis
From MYSTlore
Veovis was the son of Lord Rakeri. He appeared destined to be a great leader of D'ni but ended as one of its destroyers.
Veovis was a fellow student and adversary of Aitrus when they were children. They met again years later during the construction of the tunnels to the surface, where Aitrus saved Veovis's life, cementing their new friendship, and Veovis promised to do anything for Aitrus in the future.
Veovis was a Guild Master of the Guild of Writers, a member of the Council and particularly close to the Five Lords. He was a brilliant writer and his Ader Jamat was accepted into the canon of the greatest Ages of D'ni.
He believed strongly in the superiority of D'ni to ahrotahntee, a prejudice that led to the shattering of their friendship when Aitrus first taught the surface-dweller Ti'ana to Write, then married her. Veovis opposed the marriage until Aitrus reminded him of his promise, whereupon Veovis reluctantly agreed but declared their friendship at an end.
His friend Suahrnir introduced him to A'gaeris, who shared his belief in D'ni purity and told him that Aitrus was writing illict Ages with Ti'ana. Meanwhile A'gaeris was planting evidence that Veovis was trading in these Ages (actually written by A'gaeris himself) and revealing it to Aitrus. Veovis was arrested and sentenced to spend the rest of his life on a Prison Age. At the same time his father died, stricken by his son's guilt.
Veovis was freed by A'gaeris, and together with Suahrnir the three of them dedicated themselves to the destruction of D'ni. They bombed the Ink-Works and plotted to give the disaffected lower classes weaponry to start a revolution, but they were discovered and foiled by Ti'ana. Veovis again fell into custody and was sentenced to death. Ti'ana argued that this was too severe, especially since A'gaeris had framed him in the beginning, and Veovis was instead sent to another Prison Age, the book being burnt moments later.
But A'gaeris had linked through as well, perceived as a mere afterimage by witnesses, and set Veovis free again. From their new base on K'veer (which Veovis now owned after his father's death), they plotted again. This time they succeeded with a plague in the form of a dark cloud that spread through the cavern killing everything it touched. They spread it through as many Ages as they could find by sending dead bodies through Linking Books.
With this accomplished, A'gaeris asked Veovis to write an Age where they could be gods. This line was one Veovis refused to cross and A'gaeris stabbed him in the back. Dying in a tavern, he told Aitrus where to find A'gaeris, who had kidnapped Ti'ana and Gehn. He explained that Ti'ana had seen good in him and that she was right, in the end.
