Warning: This is a walkthrough article for a computer game in the Myst universe. Before reading, please understand that reading this page, or part of it, may severely impact your experience and enjoyment of the game. Before trying any of the hints provided here, we strongly suggest you explore and tinker on your own and try and find solutions by yourself.

In Myst Online: Uru Live, you get to the Cleft as shown by the intro, as Yeesha states: "Here, explore alone." In previous version of Uru, you will arrive at the Cleft immediately.

As you first arrive at the Cleft, you see a volcano ahead of you, and if you look carefully, a windmill far in the distance. However, you should save yourself some walking back and forth by turning around, revealing a fence, and in front of it, a sign.

When walking around the sign, you should see a piece of cloth with a symbol depicting a spiral hand. Touch it: a portion of it will light up. As you find further cloths of the same kind, you will find that this denotes your progress -- a fully illuminated hand signifies that you have finished one age, and therefore one piece of the journey.

Now, run past the volcano. You could steer either direction, but we're going to go for the right side. You will notice that the entire volcano is surrounded by another fence; sadly, there is no way for you to actually get on top of it.

You will see an airstream trailer appear ahead of you. Before the trailer, however, there is a little gem you might want to get to right now, because you won't have another chance any time soon. (This only applies to Myst Online: Uru Live; previous versions of Uru do not feature this addition.) A small fireplace, with a chair in front of it, features a beige page. By touching the green symbol on it, you activate it -- don't worry about what it actually does for now: suffice to say it has to do with Relto.

A man, Jeff Zandi sits on front of it and listens to the radio. If you listen to him, he will give you a kind introduction, and the offer of a few hints, should you ever come back to him. But more importantly, he suggests you to find journeys -- you already have found one of them -- and, that done, to "enter the tree".

Walk around Jeff's trailer, and you will find another journey cloth.

The windmill is right next to you now, but as you'll find out, trying to get it in motion doesn't do any good; it is somehow blocked. One thing after another, though: let's try and focus on more journey cloths, first. Close to the windmill is the strange gap people refer to as the Cleft. From its top, you can see walkways, bridges, small rooms and -- remember Zandi's word's -- a tree.

There's a lot of walking involved here, and to save you some, let's do something else first: further in the distance, you can see some strange metallic remnants (remains of the telescope from Riven), and, further yet, a huge skeleton (of a Wahrk, also from Riven). Get to the skeleton, as you will find another journey cloth there. The spiral-like "palm" of the hand should be filled now.

Now, return to the Cleft, and walk inside it. Near its edge, a ladder and a few stairs will let you easily descend. You are now in front of two wooden bridges. Try and the longer one, which leads to an open door...

...unfortunately, it also leads to you falling to the floor. It was worth a try, though, right? A few steps forward, and you should find a ladder back upstairs, which will, as it turns out, lead straight to another room with a journey cloth to its right. With the first finger illuminated, you should be able to conclude that there must be seven total -- and Yeesha will confirm this to you soon enough.

The room next door has a letter from her father Atrus in it, with comments of hers in red ink. Walk across a wooden plank to get to the other side, then up a ladder to get to the room we originally wanted to get to. This room is fairly big, and connected to another, so you should spend some time exploring both of them, and hopefully discover something that will solve the next puzzle. If not, continue here!
