In realMyst, Rime is a bonus age of sorts: most of the game can be finished without it; it merely gives some additional insight into some of Atrus's works. Some of the available tools and items are purely for enjoyment and serve no additional puzzle purpose (though they do, arguably, add to the storyline).
Puzzles include:
→ unlocking access to the Rime linking book, on Myst Island
→ opening the door inside the hut
→ using the crystal viewer.
