Willow "Wheely" Engberg (deceased) was the daughter of DRC member Michael Engberg. She had been spotted in the cavern from time to time, and was homeschooled there in early 2007 AD (9663 DE).

[edit] Cave In in Ae'gura

On May 20 (Leefo 23), Wheely and her friend Rosette came into the cavern to run marker missions. They reported a new crack in the library, in order to draw attention away from the crack that had appeared in the alley next to the Kahlo Pub. While DRC members and explorers went to the Library, she and Rosette turned off their KIs and ran to the real crack to investigate it. Wheely and Rosette were caught in a collapse that happened shortly thereafter.

The DRC closed down Ae'gura to focus on searching for them. Victor Laxman was able to find a weak KI signal coming from the rubble in the pub.

[edit] Rescue Effort

By May 21 (Leefo 24), the DRC had made contact with Wheely via her KI. She was approximately three floors down from the pub, in a room with glowing Bahro carvings. Rosette appeared to be dead. Wheely's Relto book would not work. Wheely reported a eyes watching her from the darkness and scratching sounds.

Wheely was also showing signs of shock and was very thirsty. At the prompting of explorers, she drew the Bahro Symbol for rain, in hopes of convincing the watching Bahro to get water. The Bahro simply wiped away the drawing. Explorers attempted to teach Wheely how to ask for water in D'ni, while others gathered around the city in attempts of attracting attention of the Bahro, yelling out in D'ni to help Wheely and drawing Bahro symbols for rain and friend. Contact was lost with Wheely that evening.

On the morning of May 22 (Leefo 25), the DRC continued to dig. Wheely re-established contact, and reported she felt much better and no longer thirsty. Contact was lost again, and the KI system reported Wheely as being in several different ages (Gahreesen, Kadish Tolesa, and Relto). However, Victor Laxman indicated that her KI signal had not moved.

Rescue efforts managed to make it to the second floor of the collapse. There they found a Bahro symbol on the wall, which was described as looking vaguely like a percent sign. Nick White told explorers that he'd seen the same symbol carved on a tree in Negilahn. He'd been unable to take a picture, as the symbol did not appear on the KI pictures he took of it.

[edit] Death

Later in the day, the DRC broke through to Wheely. They lowered a linking book to her, but it did not work when it got down there. The Bahro who had been watching her became more agitated and began a repetitive noise. Wheely finally identified it as the word "Noloben".

Her father attempted to be lowered down to Wheely, though other DRC members stopped him and lowered down a ResEng instead. When the ResEng got down there, he screamed to be pulled up. He said Wheely is "still down there, but ... you don't want to see it." The DRC switch to private communications.

Marie Sutherland announced later that Wheely was dead and that the collapse did not kill her. She declined to pass along details, out of respect. However, she described the scene as "horrific". She also confirmed that the Bahro symbol they found on the second floor was no longer there.
