[edit] Yahvo in Garternay
Yahvo was considered to be the originator of the Art, gifting the Ronay with it. His existence and orders were revealed by prophets. Oorpah was the only known prophet of that time. He wrote the Regeltavok Oorpah of wisdom and prophecy.
Ri'neref was a follower of Yavho and Oorpah's book. This made Ri'neref a moral person, something that prohibited him from writing Ages that violated the principles of his religion. His denial of writing an Age for the purpose of its inhabitants to be used as slaves, excommunicated him from the Guild of Writers.
Ri'neref and his followers did not follow the Ronay to Terahnee and founded D'ni in part because he believed the Ronay were misusing Yahvo's gift of the Art. Ri'neref became the first D'ni King and founded a new civilization according to his principles.
[edit] Yahvo in D'ni
D'ni was a civilization based on religion and the ethics of Ri'neref, a devout follower of Yahvo. Religious fervor varied throughout D'ni's history. It faded over time after the arrival at Earth until the D'ni were reminded of Ri'neref's original vision by King Ahlsendar, a prophet himself.
Ahlsendar's name was tarnished by his genocide of the Pento with a plague that would evolve and strike the D'ni themselves, and after the plague came a period of "religious confusion", its peak in 2500 DE (5156 BC), with a great variety of beliefs. In the years leading up to 3100 DE (4556 BC), the prophet Tevahr returned to Ahlsendar's beliefs and unified the people once more with a message of taygahn, love for Yahvo.
In 5574 DE (2082 BC) another prophet appeared, Gish, who ridiculed Tevahr and Ahlsendar, claiming it was necessary to return to the commands of Yahvo rather than use taygahn as a justification for one's actions. His murder by King Adesh seemed to prove his point, and his doctrine spread and became predominant, especially when it was supported by King Kerath.
Worship of Yahvo continued into Releeshahn, as Yeesha describes it as "over none, under only the Maker".
[edit] D'ni customs and worship
In D'ni, offices involved in the worship of Yahvo included prophets, whose role it was to perceive and speak Yahvo's will, and priests, whose function is unknown. Most prophets were female, as women (particularly pregnant women) were seen as being better able to communicate with Yahvo, and most kings were advised by prophetesses. There was an official Temple of Yahvo.
There were other religions present in D'ni, but by 6000 DE (1656 BC) most of these had died out. Other sects focusing on Yahvo included the xenophobic Blood of Yahvo (c. 4100 DE (3556 BC)), the Judges of Yahvo (c. 1300 DE (6356 BC)), who believed only they understood Yahvo and were to judge those who did not, and the Writers of Yahvo, who believed they were to write the Perfect Age.
Whether the apparent similarity between the name of Yahvo and the Hebrew YHVH is coincidental is a matter of ongoing discussion.
