[edit] History

Yeesha as a young girl in Tomahna
Yeesha as a young girl in Tomahna
Yeesha was born in 1815 AD (9471 DE)[1] and raised by her parents in Tomahna. Her name comes from the D'ni yESa[?], meaning "laughter"[2].

She knew about her grandmother Anna through tales and pictures but never learned the truth about her death. At the age of 8, Yeesha visited Serenia with her parents. They were also visiting her brothers in their Prison Ages, and she befriended them. Yeesha had a particular friendship with the Protectors of Serenia and was even trained to Dream. She even obtained a spirit guide since she was a Child of Water. In a ceremony, she was then given by Anya a Protector's necklace which could show its wearer past images and sounds bound within an object.

At the age of 10, Yeesha almost suffered a horrible fate at the hands of Sirrus, her older brother, who trapped her mind in the Dream realm and attempted to transfer his conscious self to her body using Serenia's memory chamber; he intended to fool their parents into teaching him the Art of writing, and perhaps kill their father.

Thankfully, the Stranger managed to stop this from happening and at Achenar's urge, he killed Sirrus. However her consciousness was still trapped in Dream and the Stranger had to enter it to put her memories in order. Yeesha returned to her body and was saved, but the price to be paid was the death of Achenar, her oldest brother whom she was very close to.

As a teenager, she set off to the city of D'ni, where she met Calam, a D'ni Master of the Art. He became her teacher, just as she inspired him to look beyond the ancient strict rules of Writing. This apprenticeship came to an end when Calam died and Yeesha avenged herself on his murderer.

Yeesha then went to the Bahro and learned from them as well, gaining abilities with the Art that far surpassed those of the D'ni. She received the Tablet and attempted to use it to set the Bahro free, but this confidence in her own power caused her to fail.

[edit] Present Day

Her second chance came in 2005 AD (9661 DE) when a human took the Quest for the Tablet. Distrusting herself, Yeesha gave no help besides initial guidance. When the Quest was accomplished and the Tablet returned to the Bahro, Yeesha considered her burden lifted and went to the new D'ni, Releeshahn, where she was reunited with her father.

For several years explorers have taken Yeesha's Journey to bring pillars supposedly associated with the souls of the Bahro to the D'ni cavern.

As of 2007 AD (9663 DE), she is still alive. As a hologram, she appeared in a Bevin on February 20, 2007 (Leevotar 10, 9662) after explorers' attempts to call her, but did not speak. On November 05 (Leevofo 12), she appeared in K'veer, holding a speech.

[edit] Powers

Other than abilities she gained by her interest in Serenian culture, such as Dreaming and re-experiencing memories, Yeesha has also showed great mastery in the Art; Yeesha is known to have altered linking books in a way that defies traditional D'ni linking technology. For example, she can write linking books that link users to another place in the same age.

She wrote the Relto age, as well as the linking books every explorer has. These Relto books, unlike normal ones, travel to their destination along with the user.

Other abilities she claims are to link without books and to use the Art to create and manipulate objects within Ages.

[edit] Background

The following section is written from an OOC point of view. Events and elements surrounding the Myst Universe are regarded as fictional.

[edit] Name

Yeesha's name somewhat resembles Jesus's Hebrew-Aramaic name: Yeshua. This may be intentional (much like the D'ni word for God, Yahvo is similar to its Hebrew equivalent, YHWH (Wikipedia)), but since Yeesha's name was invented long ago (it was in the Book of D'ni), another possibility is that, when Cyan was writing the story of Uru, they noticed this resemblance in name, and had the story slightly resemble that of Jesus (with Yeesha as the Grower). However, this is just speculation.

[edit] Actress

In Myst III: Exile, she appears as a baby who is in fact Audrey Uhler, the daughter of the game's producer Greg Uhler.[3] In Myst IV: Revelation, she is played by child actress Juliette Gosselin. In Uru (both Complete Chronicles and Myst Online: Uru Live) and Myst V: End of Ages, Rengin Altay does her voiceovers.
