The ytram is a small, orange and black, frog-like creature found in the Age of Riven. The ytram makes a distinctive chirping call. Its skin secretes a hallucinogenic toxin that the Rivenese used in poison darts. Gehn maintained a trap for catching ytrams in the caverns on the Book-Assembly Island. He extracted the toxin for the purposes of smoking it in a pipe.

The following section is written from an OOC point of view. Events and elements surrounding the Myst Universe are regarded as fictional.
"Ytram" is "Marty" backwards. Marty O'Donnell was very interested in contributing to Riven's music, and made sample tracks (such as Myst Suite) to prove his capabilities. As a joking reference to his persistence, Cyan instead used his name's reverse for this creature they were working on.
